Default My First Surface Detail (A3)

With zero experience detailing cars, I thought I would go all out and try it myself. Before getting started, I needed to decide on the products I was going to be using. I learned about various waxes, polishers and cleaners that would be useful for Audi's hard paint, and it my case, Audi's hard black paint.

I chose Zymol's product line because of it's reputable name and I like I said, I wanted to go all out.

1) two bucket wash
2) clay bar with megs quick detailer
3) two bucket wash
4) tire glaze (zaino)
3) pre-wax/clean (zymol hd-cleanse)
4) wax (zymol carbon)

I wanted to try it like the pros, so the wax was applied by hand, one panel at a time. The instructions indicated that the wax was to be wiped off immediately. It was slightly cold outside, so instead, I left the wax on until I felt it was ready to take off.

I asked Mike if he was interested in getting his hands wet and if he wanted to help a first timer out. He accepted, and cut the time in half!

The Results

What did I learn?
A white car wouldn't show the layer of dust accumulated on the 5 minute drive to the photo shot...

That is clean! Im starting to see swirl marks for from my constant cleaning via the car wash. Will any of these tricks you used help get rid or them or minimize them at all? If so, next weekend i will post pics. I love the refelction pic. The paint on the R8 was sooo tight. We are delivering a Daytona Grey R8 tomorrow. Its amazing! I assume I will have time to take some shots of it tomorrow.

By hand, I think you could dull the swirls but not eliminate them. You would have to break out the rotary and polish the clearcoat. I didn't want to try polishing my car just yet. It's risky business if you don't know what you're doing. I'll try it after I've practiced on some scrap panels.

I really hope you get pics of the Daytona grey colour!

I just click on the scenery icon just above the text box. But that option is only for images hosted outside of this site. If you want to upload to the forums click "Manage Attachments" in the Additional Options below the text box.

There are limited restrictions on file sizes and what not. I'll bump those up right now.

Up'ed jpg/jpeg to 10mb no limits on dimensions. If this gets out of hand I'll have to set limits.
